I suspect "The Hunchback" of this tale to have been inspired by the character played by Charles Laughton in the 1939 movie THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. This story was originally published in WOW COMICS in 1941. The art is credited to Mac Raboy.

Up until the last page, I actually thought that story was funny. But the Hunchback's killing the District Attorney wasn't funny. They sometimes had things like that in some of the old comic books, even though they were thought of as kid's stories. Complaints about these comics eventually resulted in the comics code.
