CA #72 - "Murder In The Mind"

Captain America and Golden Girl in another story that has a sort of a weird angle. The weird comics were supposed to be big sellers and they'd try turning Captain America's comic into CAPTAIN AMERICA'S WEIRD TALES soon.

The "Editorial Consultant" was supposed to make the comic book appear more presentable in the aftermath of criticism by Dr. Fredrick Wertham and others in this period. The same heading appeared in other Marvel comics during this period.

Editorial Cartoon

Another editorial cartoon.

I thought this was one of the better ones I've seen lately.

Bob Hope #21

THE ADVENTURES OF BOB HOPE used Bob Hope in fictional comic book stories, but they don't seem to have used any of his costars from the movies in any of them. Issue #21 has a blonde in it that could be Marie Wilson, who had her own comic book as MY FRIEND IRMA.

Tarantula - "The Crime Candle"

The Tarantula was a sort of spider superhero who predated Spider-Man. It is thought that he might have been one of the inspirations of Spider-Man, but there had been other "spider" superheroes, including the pulp magazine hero called "The Spider".

From the "DC Universe" group on yahoo.

That's The Spirit II

Charlie Brown faces his most nefarious foe! Can the Man of Brown triumph over the ultimate in evil villainy? Will truth, justice and the Charlie Brown way prevail? Could even the Man of Brown beat the sinister archfiend behind the "Menace Of The Swirling Waters"?

He can in the Charlie Brown version.

I guess I should mention that I drew the Charlie Brown head on the guy that "The Spirit" was originally fighting. I also tried to fix the girl in the background, but she still doesn't look right.

Obama's Half-Brother Involved With Terrorists

Usually I put comics on this blog, but occasionally I put in news. And this time the Octopus takes another look at the news.

The first site I looked at with this story didn't work very well, but I found another one that's OK and I put in this link to it.:

Much easier than putting another whole blog together. But here's a picture from the site of Malik Obama visiting his half-brother in the White House to sort of give you a preview.

Spider Widow Vs. Spider Man

The Spider Widow was teamed with The Raven in a series of Golden Age comics stories which sometimes also involved The Phantom Lady. This particular story is from 1943, and the art is by Frank Borth.
