The Spider Woman Strikes Back
A
The Spider Lady strikes back, sort of.
A sort of Spider Lady character appeared in the first Poison Ivy story, in BATMAN #181
Along with a couple of other supervillianesses, all of whom were shown up by Poison Ivy.
Dale remarked that Bruce Wayne appeared to be looking at a collection of pin-up pictures here. They could all be pinup girls. Writer Robert Kanigher said Poison Ivy was inspired by Bettie Page.
The names "Spider Woman" ( or "Spider Lady" ) and "Black Widow" had been used more or less interchangeably before, as for the characters Carole Forman played in different serials. The characters were supposed to be villainous villainesses either way. Likewise the ugly versions were supposed to be about as bad as the pretty ones.

The rivals of Poison Ivy are caught in her trap, and taken into custody by the police. Poison Ivy herself will be in custody by the end of the story. Batman always wins. It's his comic book.
Tallulah Bankhead played a character called "The Black Widow" on the BATMAN show in 1967. Although this was the same name as a character that Carole Forman played in a serial, it was not supposed to be the same character.
Another Black Widow appeared on SPACE GHOST during the same period.
Actually she was called "The Spider Woman" in her first appearance.

Steel Sterling And Friend
It's Steel Sterling!
And friend!
I like the way the girl friend helps beat up the bad guys in this story. Steel Sterling's twin brother, on the other hand, doesn't seem to accomplish anything. That's because he's actually Steel Sterling's secret identity, who nobody is supposed to realize is really the hero himself.
Steel Sterling is called "The Man Of Steel", a nickname that was also used for Superman. Stalin too was supposed to be a man of steel, and Herman Goering was supposed to be an iron man. Doc Savage was called the Man Of Bronze, something that was probably more familiar to people who were associated with comic books at the time.

Halfway through the story the bad guys appear to be Japanese, something which isn't actually stated outright. Swords were important to the Japanese at the time. They used them to kill people with during the second World War.
