Marc Raboy used to swipe from Flash Gordon when he was drawing Captain Marvel Jr. Eventually he got the job of drawing Flash Gordon, which was a considerably more prestigious position.
I believe that in the 1950's Flash Gordon and Dale Arden were made to look like the people on the television version and that's about the look they have here. These comics were originally published in 1963.
