One of the reasons I prefer Superman to Captain Marvel was that he actually had a girlfriend, Lois Lane. There was no comparable character in Captain Marvel stories and Captain Marvel had no real potential for romance, being a kid character who only looked like an adult.
Superman's creators wanted to have Superman and Lois Lane get married, but the publishers wanted the series to continue as it was and would not allow it. The characters got married only when it didn't interfere with the equilibrium of the series.
A 1956 episode of The Adventures of Superman, "The Wedding Of Lois Lane", was based on this story, which has art by Wayne Boring and Stan Kaye. Originally published in the July 1955 issue of ACTION COMICS, issue #206.
