LOOPING THE LOOP is a frequently mentioned, but seldom seen, comic strip that E.C. Segar did prior to his creation of Popeye. "The Loop" is a Chicago reference and the strip was done for THE CHICAGO EVENING NEWS in 1918-1919. The strip reviewed local entertainment of the day.

The woman "sitting next to me" is a caricature of Segar's wife, which is why it says that. It seems the man sitting next to her in the cartoon is meant to be Segar. Another cartoon is missing a line from the bottom. It must have been something to the effect that the invention would applaud for you.
