This time, Captain Marvel turns into a witch. Somehow, that doesn't sound right. It doesn't really sound like something that is wholesome entertainment, which was what they were presenting it as when this story was originally published.
Captain Marvel makes a reference to not having been there when the spell was cast. The idea is that he takes the place of Billy Batson, not that he is Billy Batson in a different form.
Captain Marvel decides to become a witch to fight the witch. This is about the same thing as becoming a devil to fight the Devil. Somehow, it doesn't sound like a good idea.
The lighting bolt is black because it is black magic. And because it comes from beneath instead of from above, the implication is that it came from hell instead of from heaven.
That the spell summoned an evil spirit should come as no surprise to anyone, but then, Captain Marvel frequently doesn't come across as being any too bright.
The usual magic lightning works the same as usual.
In the end, Captain Marvel uses witchcraft to beat the witch. I'm surprised that the people who thought Captain Marvel was better than Superman because he used guns to kill people ( something he never did in the comics ) never latched onto this story. Maybe they never found out about it.
I hadn't thought of it myself, but Dale pointed out that in stories of this type, the person who gets power from the Devil belongs to the Devil afterwards. So the people who made this story were ignoring the rules when they did it.
