Felix the Cat was an animated cartoon character that also appeared in comic strips, these comics sharing such features as having the animator's hand drawing in details as the story progressed. I redrew his nose in the first strip where his tail is missing, since the rest of the cat was supposed to be complete for that gag and his nose had somehow gone astray as well in this particular example.
