THE THREE STOOGES - DELL FOUR COLOR #1043

The first series of Three Stooges comics had Shemp in them as one of the characters. The next series had Joe DeRita in them, as he was the "third Stooge" at that time. This issue was a movie tie-in - the occasion was the Stooges first starring feature film, HAVE ROCKET WILL TRAVEL - and there is an ad for that film inside. This comic was actually part of Dell's Four Color series, and it was the first of five devoted to the Three Stooges. Cover date is Oct.-Dec. 1959.

Moronica - Three Stooges

The name "Moronica" was jokingly applied to movie star Veronica Lake, and was also used by the Three Stooges in their films.


In HIGHER THAN A KITE ( 1943 ), Larry Fine disguised himself as "Moronica", a reference to Veronica Lake.

 

 That's why he has the hair in front of one eye.

 

 

 

However, the Stooges had already used the name "Moronica" as the name of a mythical country in YOU NAZTY SPY.

 

And it's possible that wasn't related to Veronica Lake, because it was before she was a big star.
