" Robert The Robot" - CRAZY #7

The original CRAZY was an imitation of the original MAD comic book that was published by Marvel comics. Marvel comics also later used the title for a magazine that was an imitation of MAD magazine. Here is a robot story from the comic book incarnation of CRAZY. Art credited to Joe Maneely, no Stan Lee credit.

Mae Busch ( misspelled here ) is considered a joke for some reason. So you see her name mentioned on a poster that's supposed to be a joke, along with Monte Blue and Bela Lugosi. They must have thought they were funny, too.

SHOWGIRLS Page By Dan DeCarlo

A Dan DeCarlo page from SHOWGIRLS. SHOWGIRLS was a Marvel ( Atlas at that point ) comic book with all their pretty girl characters together-  Millie The Model, Sherry The Showgirl, Chili, Hazel, and My Girl Pearl. My Girl Pearl was actually their later version of "My Friend Irma" after they no longer called her by that name. Which presumably was to avoid having to pay to use the Irma name.

This story's signed by "Stan and Dan". Stan must have gotten to where he was feeling generous later on - they were only signed "Stan" to begin with.

Sun Girl

Sun Girl was the Human Torch's girl sidekick in the late forties. During the same period Captain America had a girl sidekick called "Golden Girl" and The Submariner had a girl sidekick called "Namora". It was something they were doing in all the superhero comics at Atlas ( Marvel ) comics at the time.

Lorna The Jungle Girl - "Jungle Uprising"

The comic book LORNA THE JUNGLE GIRL was originally LORNA THE JUNGLE QUEEN. And this story is a reprint from the 70's title JUNGLE ACTION. The story originally appeared in the first issue of the series, along with a story we already had here with "Agu", the giant ape.

The O'Brine Twins

The O'Brine Twins were a couple of old salts who had a backup feature in Fox's BLUE BEETLE in 1948.

Reblogged from http://fourcolorshadows.blogspot.com/

Although it is not stated in the story that the O'Brine twins are sailors, their names are related to water and they both wear little sailor hats and striped shirts ( which used to be associated with sailors ). Otherwise they can be seen as more or less standard comedy figures, like "Woozy Winks" in Plastic man comics.

Again we see the moon identified as a woman.

Venus makes a brief appearance in one panel. This could be considered a sort of crossover, since Marvel ( then Atlas ) Comics had a Venus character in this period.
