Doc Savage's Fabulous Five And The Fantastic Four

A

The Doc Savage team had many similarities to the later Fantastic Four.

In each case there was a small group of individuals operating out of a skyscraper, led by a superscientist against the forces of evil.

Stan Lee - How A Comic Strip Is Created

Stan Lee's 1948 book on the Timely Comics creation process.

From the Jack Kirby Fan Group on facebook.

Loren McGregor: At Robert Beerbohm's request, here are seven pages from Stan Lee's "Secrets Behind the Comics," showing how "Marty Goodman" created the character we now know as Captain America.

Loren McGregor:Kirk, I believe most of the panel work not specifically credited on this book was done by Ken Bald.

  • Robert Beerbohm Notice Martin thunk this up in 1938 a full year before he had any comic book magazines at all

  •                                                        *                *                *

Captain America was actually created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, and can be seen as similar to "The Shield", a preexisting comic book superhero. The version of the hero's origin given by Sat Lee in this book gives the credit to Martin Goodman. Stan Lee ended up taking credit for everything himself.

"Believe It Or Not" - CHAMBER OF DARKNESS #7

This story is a different version of one that Jack Kirby did, like it says ( the Kirby version is at http://bennypdrinnon.blogspot.com/2015/12/and-fear-shall-follow-chamber-of.html ). Art is by Bill Everett and Dan Adkins, who are shown at the top of the first page. Stan Lee is mentioned only as editor, same as with the Kirby version.

"The Week After Pearl Harbor..." - THE YOUNG ALLIES #6

Today is Pearl Harbor day, although it seems there are some people who don't expect anyone to know that anymore. Here is something Stan Lee wrote on the subject that was published the year after the attack came. You can see his name at the top of the page, along with that of the artist, Don Rico.

    MY FRIEND IRMA Comics

Here are some MY FRIEND IRMA comics by Dan DeCarlo, from the 1950's. We've had some here before. I think these might be different, but I'm not certain.

    Reblogged from https://scottbrothers.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/irma21.jpg

Stan Lee's name appears prominently on the first page, but only Stan Lee's.

Dan DeCarlo's name doesn't appear till the last page (third panel ). And that because he signed the artwork.

This one is credited to "Stan & Dan". Readers who designed Irma's outfits were also credited.

Stan didn't do it all. 'Nuff said.

"The Power Of Iron Man" - TALES TO ASTONISH #82

This one has Stan Lee's name on it ( or at least his first name ), he had his name all over everything in this period. Everyone is credited by their first name in this one. "Roy" is Roy Thomas. "Gene" is Gene Colan. "King Kirby" is Jack Kirby. "Dick" is Dick Ayers. But I don't know who "Arthur" is, either.
