MY FRIEND IRMA Comics

Here are some MY FRIEND IRMA comics by Dan DeCarlo, from the 1950's. We've had some here before. I think these might be different, but I'm not certain.

Reblogged from https://scottbrothers.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/irma21.jpg

Stan Lee's name appears prominently on the first page, but only Stan Lee's.

Dan DeCarlo's name doesn't appear till the last page (third panel ). And that because he signed the artwork.

This one is credited to "Stan & Dan". Readers who designed Irma's outfits were also credited.

Stan didn't do it all. 'Nuff said.

Dan DeCarlo Fashion Pages

Dan DeCarlo was the creator of JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS. Here are a couple of fashion pages he did for that comic book.

"Josie" was based on Dan DeCarlo's wife, who was also named Josie. Melodie is similar to MY FRIEND IRMA, which was another comic book that Dan DeCarlo had drawn.

Marie Wilson SUSPENSE

I noticed on youtube that they were using this Marie Wilson picture as an illustration for the radio program SUSPENSE. Which seemed to work even if she wasn't on that program ( she was on MY FRIEND IRMA ), since she was in fact beings suspended in midair.

On the occasion when that picture was taken they had hoisted her skyward in order to compare her actual legs with a replica of the genuine article at the Hollywood hosiery shop in Los Angeles.

Moronica - STARLET O'HARA #4

Moronica is like a different version of "My Friend Irma", a dumb blonde character that was played by Marie Wilson on the radio, and later in movies and on television.

We've had some of these stories on this blog before, but those were from DIZZY DAMES, and now I have one from STARLET O'HARA, which is from a different publisher. And this one says she's "Miss Nitwit of 1949", which is a little further back than when she was Miss Nitwit of 1953, for example. .

I thought the customer that wasn't always right in this story looked like Grady Sutton, but I wasn't sure if it actually was meant to be him. Any resemblance could be coincidental.

Broadway Babes - DIZZY DAMES #3

"Broadway Babes" was a regular feature in the comic book DIZZY DAMES. It was similar to "Moronica" in the same comic book, only there was a brunette as well as a blonde involved. Which tended to make it look even more similar to MY FRIEND IRMA. The difference was that the girls in these stories spent all their time trying to break into show business.

MY FRIEND IRMA #45

This time we have another MY FRIEND IRMA comic book. Stan Lee took credit for the writing and Dan DeCarlo drew the pictures.

Stan Lee would frequently put "Stan" or "Lee" or "Stanly" references into Marvel comics, such as the "Lee" school in CAPTAIN AMERICA.

This issue also has a special guest appearance by J. Bartholomew Olsen.
