Kirk Alyn - STARLOG #20

Kirk Alyn played Superman in serials before George Reeves essayed the role on television. His serials were smash hits, but were out of circulation for decades afterwards. When a new Superman movie was made with Christopher Reeve Kirk Alyn had a cameo role, and afterward was interviewed by STARLOG. Originally published March 1979.

SKY DRAGON Press Book

A press book for the last Charlie Chan movie, SKY DRAGON. I tried to put the pages in the right order, but I'm not sure if I got it right, the pages don't seem to have numbers on them.

A few pictures from the pressbook at greater magnification.

Watch SKY DRAGON

SKY DRAGON ( 1949 ) is the last film of the Charlie Chan series. Roland Winters plays Charlie Chan and Noel Neill plays a stewardess. This is one I've always wanted to see, but they never ran it here that I know of.

MAN OR MOUSE

MAN OR MOUSE was a Columbia short subject with Sterling Holloway and Noel Neill. The story had it that Noel Neill wanted to make a man out of Sterling Holloway so he'd suit her father, hence the title. MAN OR MOUSE was made during the same period as the first Superman serial, where Noel Neill's career as Lois Lane began. Sterling Holloway later appeared on the television version with her.

Happy Birthday, Noel Neill!

From Larry Ward on facebook:

Happy 94th Birthday, Noel Neill! I spent a jolly afternoon with Noel today, helping her celebrate her special day. She had a huge chocolate cake with chocolate icing, along with chocolate ice cream. For desert, she had chocolate cookies. The woman certainly loves her chocolate. She read and commented on her many cards and letters, and laughed out loud about one card in particular, all with that special gleam in her eye. I pulled out my laptop and together we viewed all the nice comments from her many well-wishers, which pleased her immensely. It was a very good day.

Lois Lane With A Gun

It's not unusual for comic book heroes and heroines to use guns. Lois Lane uses a tommy gun in the cartoon BILLION DOLLAR LIMITED,

and on the classic 1950's tv show in "Jimmy Olsen, Editor".

In another episode, "Beware The Wrecker", Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen are able to capture one of the bad guys at his hideout with the aid of a rifle they find there. But neither of them actually shoots it.

They only use it to first capture him and then to hold him at bay in order to tie him up.

The bad guy is played by Denver Pyle, by the way.

In none of these was Lois Lane supposed to have killed anyone. Gratuitous killing was not supposed to be something that the good guys did in kid's comic books or tv shows in that period.
