Jerry Lewis' Bat Lady

A

A "Bat Lady" appeared in the 1955 movie ARTISTS AND MODELS with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, played by Shirley MacLaine.

This "Bat Lady" was actually Shirley McClain.

Which is a little more obvious in this ad, where she doesn't have the mask on, than in the other pictures of her in the costume.

Three pages of Bat Lady comics drawn for the movie, but not shown clearly in the film.

This "Bat Lady" predated Batwoman's first appearance in DETECTIVE COMICS #233 in July 1956.

"The Challenge Of Batwoman" - BATMAN #105

I had the first Batwoman story on this blog a while back. This is the second Batwoman story, from BATMAN #105, which has a date of February 1957.

The name "Bob Kane" appears on this story, but it's said that he was no longer drawing the comics at this point, although the art does still have the same look to it.

Batwoman's First Adventure

Batwoman was sort of a female counterpart to Batman, with a special costume and a secret identity. She started out on her own, but ended up working alongside of Batman and with a sidekick of her own, the original Batgirl.
