I happened to be reading some old WORLD'S FINEST comics, and I came across another depiction of Superman ( and Batman as well ) with a gun.
Actually it was a recurring thing to show Superman with a gun, it just wasn't something they did very often. But it does seem that Superman was shown with a gun more often than Captain Marvel.
