THE CLOSE SHAVES OF PAULINE PERIL was a Gold Key comic book. It was not based on a television cartoon, as has sometimes been thought, but probably was at least partly inspired by the 1967 movie PERILS OF PAULINE with Pam Austin. Although of course there are similarities to earlier versions of that movie and the Fanny Zilch series.

"Rebellion" refers to a television commercial.

Terry Thomas played a villain in THE PERILS OF PAULINE. The villain in the comic book version is similar. Note the gap between his teeth.

Pauline Peril does sport the hairdo that Pamela Austin was wearing in those days.
ReplyDeleteMy brother Dale pointed out the similarities of the comic book and the Pam Austin movie to begin with. They look very much alike.
ReplyDeleteThe movie was released in the U.S. in August 1967, so Gold Key waited 3 years to release the comic. I also read that Pam Austin turned down a regular role on "Laugh-In" (she was in the pilot filmed in 9-67) because her agent told her "Perils Of Pauline" was going to make her into a big movie star.
