This story was originally published in UNKNOWN WORLDS in 1961. Although credited to "Shane O'Shea", the story was actually written by editor Richard Hughes, the same as everything else published by the company at the time. He used a variety of different pen names to make it appear that more than one writer worked on these comics.
Ogden Whitney, credited as the artist, really did draw it as well as the regular series of "Herbie" stories. This story is unusual in that Herbie only turns up at the end of it to save the world.
